The face is one of the basic ways the human being uses to communicate with the rest of the world, through the face we can talk, see, listen and smell, making it a beautiful structure which reminds us the race, culture, age, and family to which we belong.

The face is located in front of the brain and on top of the body, and it’s capable of transmitting even what is unspeakable, just by looking at it. This visual transmission of gestures is possible because of the complicated connection between facial nerves and the 17 facial expression muscles, they are different from the other muscles of the body, because these are firmly adhered to the facial skin, so when the muscles moves the facial skin reacts contracting or expanding, all the movements are perfectly synchronized thanks to the balance in the connection between emotions, brain, facial nerves, and muscles. But, as time goes by all these conscious and unconscious movements and the normal skin ageing, leave a trace on our face, which little by little form wrinkles and creases.

This is when the Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX®  helps us prevent or attenuate the wrinkles that form on the forehead, between the eyebrows, on the nose root, around the eyes, on the periphery of the lips and on the neck, all these caused by the constant facial muscular contraction

Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX® is the commercial name of a medical product, which comes in an ampoule that contains a microscopic dust of a protein derived from botulism toxin. When this dust is diluted in a saline solution it’s activated, and then it’s meticulously injected with a very thin needle in the treated muscles. Once in the muscle the neurotoxin works blocking the transmission or message the facial nerve sends to the treated muscle, as a consequence a transitory muscular inactivity occurs. The doctor injects all the muscles he or she consider necessary, according to the wrinkles each patient presents.

Once the clinical history is discussed, after performing a physical examination, after planning the procedure on paper, and after taking pictures of the patient, the patient’s face is cleaned to start injecting the Botulinum Toxin in the spots that have been signaled or previously planned, the patient can be lying down or sitting, this will be done according to how the doctor learned the technique.

Once the session has ended, the patient can return to normal activity, avoiding, during the next 4 hours, to lie down, massage the treated zones, and extreme physical activity

When in good hands this procedure is fast, successful and with out complications, Obtaining, as a result, a fresh looking face, expressive, without wrinkles; and the skin looks bright, healthy and smooth, for these reasons this procedure is recommended for men and women who wish to keep their skin free of wrinkles.

Its use is contraindicated in some patients, specifically in the following cases: if the patient is taking antibiotic, has an infection in the facial skin, suffers of muscular degenerative disease, if the patient is hyper sensible to the components of the Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX®,
or if the patient is pregnant or
breast feeding her baby

The complications in the use of the Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX®
can be
caused by an error of the doctor in the application, or because the patient doesn’t follow the recommendations after the application.

The application of the Botulinum Toxin is a valid non-surgical option for patients who wish to prevent the wrinkles or for patients who have wrinkles and decide to erase them transitorily.

It’s important to know that the effects of the  Botulinum Toxin Type A - BOTOX® will last about 6 month, the reapplication is possible, it only depends on what the patient  likes and if he or she are willing to.

Remember that wrinkles caused by over exposure to sun rays and the wrinkles proper to normal aging and  to the effect of gravity are not treated with this method, for this reason, more demanding patient count with other methods, as: rejuvenating laser, derma abrassion, peeling, surgical face lifting,  subperiostic lifting. All these methods are effective, irreplaceable, unique, and could also be complementary.
